Every single registered domain name has at least two Name Server records which show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your Internet domain to the servers of a specific website hosting company. In this way, you have got both your site and your emails managed by the exact same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are lots of other records, like A and MX. The first one reveals which server manages the website for a given domain name and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter reveals which server deals with the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For example, any time you type a domain address in your browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain name uses and from there you could be directed to the servers of a different provider in case you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain name. Having independent records for the website and the e-mails means that you could have your site and your e-mails with 2 different companies if you wish.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting account from our company and you would like to direct either your site or your emails to a different service provider, it is going to take you literally only two clicks to do this. Our Hepsia Control Panel comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you're going to be able to see and change the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you wish to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the standard two, it is not going to take more than a couple of mouse clicks either to add them. You can also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a given MX record will have. The propagation of each record that you modify or set up will not take more than a few hours and if needed, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which shows how long a record will stay active after it's changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

With the Linux semi-dedicated packages which we offer, you're going to have total control over the records of all domains and subdomains that you add in your hosting account. You can easily check what A and MX records every one of them has via the DNS Records section of the Hepsia hosting CP and modifying any record takes only a few mouse clicks. If you decide to switch your web or e-mail hosting provider, you can edit the required record and point your domain address to the other service provider for one of the services, while you still keep using the other one through us. You could also keep the main domain here, while you modify the A record of only one of its subdomains. If you are modifying the MX records and you need additional ones on top of the default two that we have, you can create them with ease and set a different priority for every one.
