These domains can include personal or fictitious names, nicknames and/or other designations people are popular by. Initially, solely third-level registrations were possible, so if you planned to secure john.doe.name, you would have to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were loosened and 2nd-level registrations were also permitted. Already bought third-level names remained functional.
